Default 500EFI or 525EFI

Other than the 5% increase in hp and closed cooling,is there any benefit to the 525 powerplant.I see used pairs of 500s' for 25k and 35k for 525s'.Is it worth the 10k for closed cooling and 50hp(for pair)?thanks Mike

Absolutley! The 525's are a much better engine. Closed cooling (biggest plus), aluminum heads, sport tube headers etc. The 525's usually put out around 540hp where the 500's put out 470hp.

If your staying stock I think the 525's are the better engine....If you plan upgrades I would rather have the 500's.

You are correct about the 525's putting out 540, but the 500's put out closer to 520. 470 is prop hp.

Thats a great sugestion!! Aluminum heads and a computer recal and you have more than 525. If your not in salt water, I don't really see the advantage of closed cooling. My 500 EFi has performed flawlessly, but I'm up here in cool water, For what thats worth.

And what about the 575 SCI ?Do they have problems that would make you want to stay away from them? After all they were built only a few years before they went to the 600 SCI with whipple chargers.thanks guys,Mike

The SC575SCi's are great engines. We have two in our pache. The engines can always be made better and stronger, but stock there great!
