Default Oil Pressure Question

I have a 502 mpi that is registering fine on the oil temp guage but the warning light is coming on.

I have multiple questions:
1. What is the cause of the problem?

2. Some have told me it's probably a sending unit issue, but then it's unclear if there are 1 or two sending units for the warning guages. So, are there 2 or just 1 and there is something electrical T'd off of that? I looked under the dash area and didn't see anything jump out at me.

3. Being that I'm not mechanical, where are the sending units(s)? BY this I mean, talk to me like I'm 5. I can't find any pics on the web of where this would be. I'm guessing in the remote oil filter locater or someplace else? How do I change it if that's the cause?

4. If not a S.U. issue, how would I repair the issue?

It doesn't appear to be running hot and pressure seems fine, it just seems the light is spastic. I'm hoping the light is wrong and not the needled guage.

It's a 96 Merc 502 EFI.

Thanks in advance.

what oil temp are you running on the gauge?

If you have Livorsi/Gaffrig gauges with the red lights, the lights read from the same sender as the gauge.

I'm not aware of any 502 Mags that came factory stock with an oil Temp gauge, so are you sure its temp you are talking about, and not the pressure?

I'm running 180-200 most of the time.

Fountain used Gaffrigs in our 96 32.

Its not the sender, its the gauge. The gaffrig that you have is now livorsi, so thats what it will need to be replaced with.

Just a note,

If you send your gauge back to Livorsi they can make a new or repair your old gauge and still retain the Gaffrig logo as long as you request it.I have been sending my back little by little and having them refurbished.

Thanks Nordic95
