Aero Tek With Cavitation/blowout Problem
#12
Big Slick,
My transom looks just like yours. The boat has a 415 hp 502 mag EFI. It has been a good boat but I'm looking to go a little bit bigger and twins.
I really hope Wild Card 09 comes through with the transom pics. This is one problem I would like to cure.....
Good luck, LF

That notch in the transom is probably creating a low pressure area and sucking water up behind the boat. Most notched transoms are taller and above the water when on plane. Ventilating it with a large air hose or even filling it would be better than what's there now.

I'd use some thing like 2" dia. hardwall water tubing and just run it straight all of the way up the inside of the transom. Use something like a water inlet grate thru the fiberglass. It's going to pull alot of air so be careful what's close to the end of the hose. I wonder if filling it wouldn't be the best solution.

its wierd because i can tell there was something with 8 3/8 inch holes drilled into the pad,and at the back of the v there was another hole filled in approx 1/2 inch in diameter.also there is a through hull fitting that is plugged off at the very back of the boat on the drivers side.if you look at the pic of the boat from germany there is a spray of water coming from that area?so is it going to draw air or water from the pad or force air into the pad?

BIG SLICK, I had a 28 AeroTek also. I also put a through hull fitting in the bottom of the boat with a 1.25 inch hose up the inside of the transom and it fixed the problem . The drive is mounted pretty deep on those boats and the notch isn't needed. I removed the vent and made a plug for the notch with wood and fiberglass. I then screwed and glassed it to the boat and gelcoated it. The boat ran like it was 3 feet longer and lost no speed! It ran 78-80 with a 540.

IŽll give Marcus a nudge to get those pics in here. The water coming off the starbord side is from the blöwer cooling.
The hole where the air goes IN is somewhere in the middle of the transom between the tailpipes, I think.
DonŽt fill in the notch. Just add the pipe and everything works great.
