Reliability 1075's vs 700's
#1
Currently have a 2007 28' Eliminator Daytona with 496 HO's - runs great - no issues great reliability.
I'm ready to move up to my next boat - looking at 36 Elim Coupe and Nortec 36 Supercat. Was planning on going w/700's - but have been presented with an option to get into a slightly used boat with 1075's.
Love the idea of picking up another 25mph - but am concerned about spending my weekends wrenching instead of running. I have no basis for these concerns other than hearing that more exotic power tends to mean more down time.
I've loved the reliability of these HO's....would I be sacrificing reliability if I do go with the 1075 rigging vs the 700's?
Also interested in perspectives on Merc 700's vs Ilmor 700's - I would imagine servicability is easier with Mercs due to the large dealer network -but how's the reliability comparison of those 2 motors?
Thanks in advance.

Really depends on how hard you are running them, what conditions, and if you are taking good care of them. Check this site for Mercury's recommendations:

The 25,000 is if Mercury is performing the work. Obviously there are capable shops on here that can do that work for much less. Going with Mercury however gets you another 90 day warranty.

There would not be 40 mph difference between a 700vs.1075 36 Nortech, would be close to 30mph, It depends on your experience and pocket book for insurance, 700's would probably be insurable, the 1075's would be very tough unless you go with a ultra high deductible and you have 5 or more years ofhigh performance cat experience, go with the 700's , very nice package.
