bravo 1 speedo question
i have a bravo 1 out drive on my 502 mpi, when i bought the boat it had a after market speedo called a medallion sport ,well i hit something and it broke it off,so i went to the dealer and they said they did not make it anymore,so my question would be ???does the bravo 1 outdrive have a speedo built in to the unit,? can i just take the hose off medallion and put it on bravo unit?i found a hose with a srew in it around the inside of outdrive area,i think thats where i would hook up stock speedo?and a another question would be ,why would some one disconect the stock speedo and go with after market and drill holes in boat to mount unit?please help me with this problemo, thanks always don

Look at the leading edge of the lower unit. You will find a small hole there, that is the speedo pickup. Blow into the hole and see if air comes out of hose you found. It may be clogged. If so do a search in this section. You will find instructions on clearing. Basically involves drilling it out (without losing the drill bit in the pickup) to remove any debris that has become trapped inside.

Air alone won't do it. Get an extra long 1/8" drill bit from a supply house that specializes in tools and supplies for machinists. Chuck that in a tap wrench and start digging out whatever is packed in there. It only takes a few minutes and doing it by hand you won't accidently ruin anything. With all the crap floating in the river I have to do this several times a year. Spray the bit with WD-40 after you are finished to keep it from rusting.
