You will not blow the engine being a tooth off running without a load. You are adjusting the housing of the distributor to compensate for this. If its off so much that you can't turn the distributor enough, then we'll go from there.

You are going to need a timing light.

A distributor will go all the way in and can be a tooth or more off. The gears and oil pump shaft work independently of each other. Right now you are very close if all was done and interpreted as I said. I think you may be one tooth off of perfect, but I can't tell for sure without seeing it and it might be right on. Being a tooth off can be adjusted out by turning the distributor. Or you can pull the dist and use a long screw driver to turn the oil pump shaft.

Hook up water to the engine with muffs or however you do it.

It should be ready to fire. It may take a while to get fuel since it was all apart.

Have a wet towel handy to throw over the carb in case of a bad backfire.

Make sure the distributor hold down is tight, but no so tight that you cant rotate it with some effort.

If you are doing this by yourself, try to start it for about 5 seconds. If it doesn't start, rotate the distributor a half inch and keep try again for 5 seconds.

You won't need the timing light yet.

You are going need to find out how much timing advance is built into your ignition to set the timing with a light and get it perfect. It has to be perfect to run it under load or it will detonate.

Do you have a triangular shaped electronic part about 3" by 6" that is hooked into the ignition and is wired to the distributor and coil??

Because I have that thunderbolt ignition box that is mounted on a metal triangular peice but it is mounted to my stainless exhaust. That looks to be wired into the coil and the distributor
