Would the tunnel ram have any effect on throttle response? I understand the basic principle is to have a nice straight non-turbulent flow hitting the intake valve but the additional runner length cause a lag? Also, what about over-carburetion? Is there an offset due to the fact that you're getting better flow or is CFF just CFM, regardless of manifold design or number of carburetors?
Yes, and no...
If you were to take a Tunnel Ram off of a Drag Race engine that is desgined to work at 10,000 RPM yes it would have a lag. If you design the package properly taking into consideration the heads, runner size, runner length, shape, plenum size, and carburetor sizes you won't have a problem at all.

540 ci, Crane 741, 9:1 comp, good aluminum heads (probably non-cnc)
This combo would probably have something like the Dart intake and a 1050 on it in a single 4 barrel configuration.
So in a TR setup, what manifold, what carburetors and why?

OK then- let's do a common test case-

Believe it or not , the old Holley Pro Dominator tunnel ram works very well in a marine application with it's smaller plenum volume. I have a pair of 572 Donovan blocked T-ram engines in a 1990 Cigarette 38 Top Gun that runs 92-93 mph. They work great!

You can also use a single dominator on a Tunnel ram, but I have not, nor know anyone who has tried it.
Idle and docking has never been that big an issue. It seems that dock manners for me have always been in the camshaft and how much is left in the cooler.
I have a 582" engine with oversized combustion chambers that I built ffor a blower, but am actually probably going to put a Ram on, since I have one lying around. If I get around to it, I will post numbers.
Dr. Dean, how is my answer to Chris's test question?

So what carbs would you use on our hypothetical 540 motor? Is cam a consideration? If so, why?

[QUOTE=jeff1000man;2453015]WEIAND 5885. Old school ram. put dual 4150flange 600CFM HiPo Holleys. Unless you are getting nasty with a cam over .680. Then use 750's
