intercoolers and superchargers

I have 850s hp with superchargers with no intercoolers or chillers.I've heard salt water have a tendency to corrode the inside therefore going inside the motor causing a disaster.
What do you guys think????Any experience???

If the chillers are made of Cupronickel, then salt will not bother them.

besides that the engines would probably go before that happens

Well I spoke with a reputable engine builder looking to upgrade for easy reliable horsepower and didnt give me a good vibe.He said i would have to be extremely carefull and even so I could be in trouble...I dont get it why then....

Well it seems your builder is in the minority on this. Most builders use innercoolers on blower engines. I think you have a higher risk of blowing the engine from detonation without a cooler then a water leak maybe causing an issue.

Right On!

Lets see, every single "TOP" engine builder uses innercoolers. What does that tell ya?

I have a set up to pressure test my intercoolers that is similar to the set up I use to pressure test my headers, Both can be used without removing the components from the motor! Not a bad practice (maybe a little over kill) to test at each oil change!

Not using an intercooler on a blown boat motor makes no sence. You have an unlimited supply of cold water, and it's "almost" like free hp.
