I have a 23' bowrunner with twin 4 cylinders that run at 10k RPM WOT. I know it's not an offshore boat, but this is my favorite site on the internet and I thought it would be ok to ask. Needless to say it is impossible to talk at all with passengers due to the noise. Has anyone installed the insulation blankets available from West Marine and other places? Did you notice a difference? Do they create a lot of extra heat in the engine compartment? Thanks in advance. Nick

the blankets from west marine work pretty well, make sure you have good air flow though the engine compartment and run 91 or better fuel, if not the engine will heat soak when you stop and vapor lock. the higher octane fuel won't boil til a higher temp.

Thanks, I run on 87 and don't know if it's worth the extra fuel costs just to reduce the noise. I would have never thought about that.

Of just run the engine compartment vent fans longer after shutdown.

or just open the hatch. I do that in the summer after a hard run.

A buddy has the same boat, and you're right. That thing is loud at cruise. I think some insulation would help it out a lot .When we are in our Ski Centurian, it's no problem holding a conversation cruising down the river. But for some reason the noise in the Yamaha reverberates into the cockpit. From outside the boat, it isn't loud at all.

DMOORE, you're right. On shore, you can't even hear me go by, but in the cockpit, it's like sitting next to two R1's wide open.
