I would love to see some pics of the stainless. My plexi is cracked in a couple of spots and need to replace it and stainless sounds like the way to go.

You can see it a little bit in the picks, it shows up better in person. Its just a plate of mirror stainless on the fire wall,its .060 mirror stainless,the screw/bolts will deflect it like plexi,its doesn't scratch as bad.I bet it would be expensive compared to plexi,like my Hustler its prob 30x60 2 pc.$$$$ Hustler told be that the Plexiglas needs a backing ,like star board. with that ,it will prob be about the same price as stainless.and it doesn't crack

Polished Stailess is the way to go. I did it on my old Checkmate turned out perfect.

The pad was luckily through bolted, so I made a template with the existing holes. Marked them on the back of the stainless and drilled them. I used a little silcoln to hold it and keep it from rattling. I buffed the stainless and that was it. The best part is even if the motor is close to the top the stainless doesn't distort, and it always stayed shinny.

Inside tip, I found a local company that welds up milk tractor trailers, the stailness ones. They had all kinds of scraps. I think I paid 18 bucks for a 50"x50" piece a few years ago.

That checkmate was a quick boat, but you had to drive it. 78 GPS.

I used plexiglas and it worked really good. Do not fix it with screws. You will never get a distortion free surface that way.

1/8" plexi works really good. Cut to size and sand the edges with 100 grade. I used self adhesive backed Velcro and it is great. Attach it about 3/4" inbord from the edge and acouple of strips across the middle. Clean the surfaces with a mild solvent before to make sure they are free of grease.

The cool thing about the Velcro is that it acts as both a shock absorber and it will even out any slight uneveness in the base surface. Velcro tends to grip stronger and stronger with vibration. My mirrors have been on for a season and you can hardly pull them off. They can however be removed and refitted for cleaning or other issues.
