Hatch cover..lighter?
Anyone ever tried to lighten you hatch cover? I mean, i pulled mine off the other day and it weighed as much as 2 fat chicks, lol. Seriously, I had no idea this thing weighed as much as it did. Has anyone redone theirs and if so how did it work out? That's alot of weight the boat has to carry/push!

I thought the same thing when I pulled mine off, but you have to figure 4-5'5' 115lb dancin babes are gonna weigh almost 500lb's, and thats a lot of weight dancin on the back of the boat (which is fine with me), so I would suggest keeping it nice and strong.

I am replacing mine on my old 85 scarab 1. What I found when I got the covering off was that they did a fairly good job of keeping the water out but over the years it seeped in the hinge holes and I now have a waterlogged 47" X 72" piece of 3/4" plywood that weighs way more than it should. I dont have a scale but being wet its weight has more than doubled. The new one should weigh less than a petite chick.
