The answer is yes and no. The inside of my old housing was "rippled" ever so slightly, meaning it still worked, but probably wasn't perfect. It doesn't take long running dry for the impeller to get really hot, then when it stops i think it "spot welds" itself to the housing. Start the motor next time (usually when it's a holiday wkd) and it just rips the @$% out of the impeller....

I have not run one, but I asked about them a while back, as I've had some problems with the stock impellers, and even though they say run dry, your not supposed to run them dry on purpose, but are suppose to hold up to periods of loss of water much better than the stock one. Nascat here on OSO sells them.
