Default water routing

Getting ready to put my now fresh 502's back in, going with 496 short riser exhaust, question is with my stock thermo housing early style 4 barbs to exhaust-open between hot/cold. will the 496 riser coming from a closed cooling set up flow enough water out that I can run warm side to bottom of manifold and tee cold side into manifold-riser hose or should I just dump my cold side overboard (cold side has the plastic balls and springs). My concerns are too much water pressure/ not enough flow thru exhaust. I will be spinning them abit faster that I used to be able to. any suggestions? thanks Randy
