Don't be stingy with an oil filter...it can cost you a lot later.

Are these the same applications for a 600 sci motor also
Thanks wellcrafted |
13/16-16 nipple is used I think up to and including the 525 HP.
Then you go to the 1 1/2” - 12 T.P.I. nipple. Just do a cross reference to be sure. I stay away from the $2.99 oil filters...you get what you pay for and you want both good flow and filtration. Mobil Amsoil Baldwin Wix Fram Racing K&N Mercruiser Racing Can't go wrong. |

I understand that the Mercruiser spec. (14957) was equivalent to the Purolator L20049. Mercruiser specifically recommend not to use double filters (filter within a filter) in Marine engines.
I can not say for sure who makes the Merc HP filter as so many oil filter manufacturers out there make filters with different color paint on them. My best guess is Purolator; Pure-1 http://www.pureoil.com/ |
Im certainly no expert, but looking at the Wix 51222r and the Mercury Racing filter. They look identical. Down to some tiny numbers printed on the base just inside the gasket surface. The only difference I see is the cost. Merury Racing $70.00, Wix is $22.50. I know you get what you pay for, but thats just price gouging.

I use the Mobil-1 Oil Filter which goes for around $10.00.....it is easy to get around town and it is very similiar to a Wix (as I opened one up). It is a high flow and excellent filtration device that is well built and can be used with synthetic or conventional oil. Purolator Pure One filters are the amazing for the price. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000H81CFM?...0&linkCode=asn |

Hydro,
The Amsoil SDF-24 is no longer made and has not been produced for a number of years now. The replacement is the EaO24 and IMO is one of the best if not the best performing filters available. Excellent filtration with great flow at the same time. The Amsoil filters are also now assembled by WIX using proprietary media from Amsoil and Donaldson. The best of both worlds IMO. http://www.modernoils.com/EaO_Oil_Filters.html |
