The 51222R is for a system having a 1 1/2” - 12 T.P.I. nipple. The Mobil-1 Oil Filter cross reference for this application would be the M-104 (Short); M-208 (Tall) I think you want the tall filter John. http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/racing.asp#oil |
thank you!

Don't be stingy with an oil filter...it can cost you a lot later.
|
Are these the same applications for a 600 sci motor also
Thanks wellcrafted |
13/16-16 nipple is used I think up to and including the 525 HP.
Then you go to the 1 1/2” - 12 T.P.I. nipple. Just do a cross reference to be sure. I stay away from the $2.99 oil filters...you get what you pay for and you want both good flow and filtration. Mobil Amsoil Baldwin Wix Fram Racing K&N Mercruiser Racing Can't go wrong. |

I understand that the Mercruiser spec. (14957) was equivalent to the Purolator L20049. Mercruiser specifically recommend not to use double filters (filter within a filter) in Marine engines.
I can not say for sure who makes the Merc HP filter as so many oil filter manufacturers out there make filters with different color paint on them. My best guess is Purolator; Pure-1 http://www.pureoil.com/ |
Im certainly no expert, but looking at the Wix 51222r and the Mercury Racing filter. They look identical. Down to some tiny numbers printed on the base just inside the gasket surface. The only difference I see is the cost. Merury Racing $70.00, Wix is $22.50. I know you get what you pay for, but thats just price gouging.

I use the Mobil-1 Oil Filter which goes for around $10.00.....it is easy to get around town and it is very similiar to a Wix (as I opened one up). It is a high flow and excellent filtration device that is well built and can be used with synthetic or conventional oil. Purolator Pure One filters are the amazing for the price. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000H81CFM?...0&linkCode=asn |

Hydro,
The Amsoil SDF-24 is no longer made and has not been produced for a number of years now. The replacement is the EaO24 and IMO is one of the best if not the best performing filters available. Excellent filtration with great flow at the same time. The Amsoil filters are also now assembled by WIX using proprietary media from Amsoil and Donaldson. The best of both worlds IMO. http://www.modernoils.com/EaO_Oil_Filters.html |

This is another fantastic oil filter that is "overbuilt".
Excellent flow and filtration...AND good at higher oil pressures; very tough build quality. Similiar to the Mobil-1 and Amsoil filters that use newer generation cellulose. Great filters expecially for synthitic oil for extended use. I still personally use M-1 oil filters as they are easy to get off the shelf. I use either M-1 V-twin or Redline these days along with some Amsoil Series 2000 products. I was PM'd thought I would share the info. http://www.knfilters.com/oilfilter.htm |
Just talked to Wix Filters and they suggested that 51061R is meant to be used only once and for RACING only. The TECH person stated that this filter only filter's at 61 microns.
I'm more confused now than when I started too ask questions!!!! The reason I called Wix was to ask why their filter only had 6 drain back holes and the HP4 had 8. Along with having 2 more holes they were larger in diameter. |

Unless all you do is race you don't want that kind of oil or filter. |
So the answer is do not use the Wix 51061R unless you are racing. This is not an everyday filter with conventional oil?

I use Mobil-1 oil filters. Mobil 1 touts as having 98% single-pass particle filtration at 10 to 20 microns, and multiple-pass efficiency of 95% (vs. 80% for the average filter). As far as Wix goes: http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/racing.asp I did some additional research and the 51061R Wix Racing crosses with the following: Volvo # 835440 MerCruiser #'s 14957, 35-802885T & 35-866340Q03 Wix # 51069 (Racing Only) Napa # 1069 Purolator # L20049 Mallory # 9-57801 Fram # PH30 Sierra #18-7824 |

What kind of engine/year? |
It is actually a HP6 size filter.

fyi.. Frams HP Series filter is just for performance and racing use. This spin-on filter can trap particles as small as 15 microns smaller than the 20-40 micron-sized particles that cause most engine wear. The filter has an anti-drainback valve. Maximum flow rate is 10 gpm and maximum operating pressure is 200 psi. Now these are $20/ea and I suspect a decent filter vs. the Fram $2.99 filters>>? |
I was told this filter does not have a drainback valve. Makes for less of a mess whan changing. Punch a small hole in the top and wait a while... remove with no mess. I checked the # it is correct..Thanks..700's w/NXT's

wix # 57003r wix #5122r are both the same size but show for racing only i think the thread size is different. none of the mobil 1 filters matched so far |
Not sure which way this tread went. The 600 sci and the 700 sci, do not use the same oil filter. Or at least the 600's we had, and 700's we now have don't. The 600's you can cross with a Fram HP 4.

SO a Wix Racing or Fram HP series is what they spec for? |
I just called Wix & Fram. They have never seen this merc part #35-840634K01..........mmmmm

#35-840634k01 merc part # (that is the correct part # as its the same on the new one i just put on boat sat. its about 4 1/2 " wide 6 1/4 tall with a 1 1/2 " thread opening I just changed oil last weekend . In checking with wix based on measurements the # 57003r # 5122r both look the same size as the merc filter |

I would probably use the K&N filters. As the new ones have really outstanding flow and capture as well. The MSRP is $14.00 and Autozone and PepBoys have them for around $10.00. http://www.knfilters.com/oilfilter.htm I like what Moroso is saying here...a balance of flow and filtering..27 micron filtration (I think Wix was 60 mics if I recall.) This Moroso filter is in my mind equal to a K&N... lots of flow...proper engine oil pressures...max. engine life. Not that Wix is a bad filter or anything. http://www.moroso.com/catalog/catego...?catcode=20002 The 700's cross with a Fram HP-6 = Wix 51222R, 57003R, = Moroso 51222R, 57003R. M0bil-1 501; No K&N #'s. I think we hav it nailed for the 600/700 engines...agree? |
Its just a coincidence I guess, that the Wix part # and the Moroso part # is the same for the 700 sci??

Hydrocruiser, I also prefer the Mobil 1 filters. Do you know what the cross reference part number is from the HP6 to Mobil 1?
