B&W 72C Question

I have a 72C that after installing my motors back in the boat has a delay in engaging in gear both forwards and in reverse. Both trans were fine before the motor rebuild and only one is doing this. Oil level seems to be fine as is the linkage I believe.

Anybody have an idea??
