Procharger 600cfm carb
I am considering installing a procharger on my 454 BBC. Does anyone know if I can continue running my 850 holley or will I need to replace it with a 650 as Procharger recomends? Also when I switch to a bigger prop will my boat turn into a dog coming out of the hole considering that Procharger produces little boost at the lower RPM range.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks Gene

I'm no expert in anyway on carbs, but procharger uses smaller carbs and jets up about 10 sizes because the smaller venturis signal will be huge and draw all of the extra fuel you need to supply that motor without changing the other circuts internally. If you have to buy a carb (650) then I would send yours to Dean Nickerson Marine, modify what you have and most likely make more power than the 650 and maybe be cheaper too. the benefit of him doing it is that he can help you with jetting questions and timing plugs etc. He built a 950 for my 502. runs well. Few of my friends have tired running larger carbs with ProChargers. All went back to the smaller carbs.

Burke power is one of prchargers biggest installers, youd be better off with a small b&m blower, or a whipple charger, prochargers like fuel injection better. theres alot of extras you have to install. arizona speed and marine make a part youll need for a carbd version. alot a guys have tried them around here and nobody really cared for the carborated set up very hard to dial in

A Procharger will no little at low rpms. As the rpms go up the boost goes up. I ran a Procharger on a 7.4 with a 650 carb for several years no real problems. The only thing I did was upgrade the fuel system. I ran the SX fuel pump. The b&m will give you boost off the bat.

I dissagree Pathanther man. I have a Procharger with a 825 Demon carb and it is a 502 with 698 Hp on the dyno and I don't have Huge jets. It starts and idles like a stocker. All the superchargers are good units wether it is a Procharger, wipple, vortex or Holley. All may have some problems from time to time. I havn't hade any yet and I have 185 hours on it and yet to foul a plug or have black on my transom. Remember when you get specs from Procharger or Nickerson its just a start. No one can set up your carb correctly with out the motor.
