Exclamation Opinions Please!

Does anyone have any experience with or opinions about hydrofoils?? The ads sound great but do they really work? Any info and/or opinions would be great. Thanks!

almost all boats will benefit from NOT having the hydrofoils installed. After saying that they would be beneficial on seriously underpowered heavy boats that the owner wants to operate at the minimum planing speed or below. They will cut the maximum speed of almost any boat but will allow it to remain on plane at a lower speed.

I put one on my first boat, a 196 Wellcraft. It did slow it down a little but it made it handle and ride better. It would respond to drive trim much better and helped lower the bow so you could see when setting down. If a boat does not have trim tabs I think it would be a cheap upgrade. Tabs slow you down, too. If top speed is what you want then I wouldn't use one.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the input guys. I appreciate the info. Guess I'm gonna pass on the hydrofoil idea.

If you are really wanting to use a hydrofoil than get the ne that is shaped like the v of the boat bottom this one would give the least loss in mid to top speed because as you trim up the fiols wings will start to drag less.

The force generated by the hydrfoils is extreamly hard on the outdrive assembly, thats why they put tabs on the transom
