Default Drive Oil Fluid getting Hot

Recently on the port side motor of 496 Mag H/O the drive fluid seems to be getting Hot enough that it is expanding pushing the fluid in the trim bottle up and out!!!!

Not sure if it is forcing it out the Bellows or through the top of the trim bottle.

I was told it is a sign of a drive starting to go out.

Any thoughts on this???

it is a sign of trouble, better to address it know before you eat up a gear or something and goes thru the whole drive

Its a newer lighter boat with mild power and that he lives north of me with short seasons,,,, assuming the boat was cared for,,,, I'm still gonna think positive for him and stick with the caps.

And I sure as heck would try it before ripping my drive apart !!!!!

We pulled the drive thinking it might be a bad Yoke or seal, but found nothing visible!

The boat is well taken care of, but would be lying if we told you we did not put it through the paces!!!

Was going to take it up for the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Poker Run, but if the drive is on it's way out then it is best to leave her sit and get it looked into more.

We will be on the boat for a Family weekend this weekend taking it easy. I will try the suggestion and then go from there.

Thanks for the input

30,
How do you fill your drive? When you drain it, drive is on the boat and the bottle emptys.
When you fill it, pump in through the drain hole in the lower on bearing carrier. Fill till it runs out of the upper drain plug. Now install the drain plug and continue to fill till you see about 1/2" or so in the bottle. Stop filling, let the pressure equalize. Then remove the filling aparatus and top off the bottle. This prevents air from getting trapped in the upper and the line to the bottle. Sometimes it will cause what you are seeing.

Hope this helps.

I have the dealer service the drives and do all that so I am not really sure. I would assume they did it correct.
