Big differance in 200HP gain and 85Hp gain
Dustin claimed 200 over a 1471 with 2.5 less boost.

I don't do a lot of roots blowers. I do use a bunch of Whipples and can't say enough good things about them. If the 5 liter is anything like the 2.3 quad in a boat, I will be pleased. I'm rigging this Skater now, so I'll know in a few weeks how the blowers do. I built these engines exactly the same as I built previous quadrotors, so I will have a good comparison, even though it is in a different boat. I'll still be able to tell how much a$$ they have.
I have been happy with all of the Whipples I have used. The only ones I ever had trouble with were the quadrotors, and I was able to fix them. All of the problems with the quadrotors have been addressed with the 5 liter, so it should be trouble free. I have one boat with single 3.3 liters that have 217 hrs at the moment and have not been touched. They are 3 1/2 years old and have been flawless, making almost 1000 hp.
I don't think you will be disappointed Keith if you buy some Whipples. Plain and simple, they work.

Good stuff Eddie...
I am getting ready to build two modified Bulldogs and sticking the brand new 4.0 Whipples and full EFI on top of them. (Going in a Slingshot)
Should be a fun setup.

Thanks Eddie you know how long i have run littlefields 1471 without no failures .Sent back twice in 8yrs not looking to go faster and pick up more problems.Bill Pyburn had issuses at dessert storm with more than 1 8ltr. My statement to Whipple was that 400 extra HP on my hull should pick up attleast 10-20 mph and that is coming from Peter himself.
I just have a hard time fixing something that dont break.Dustin is a great guy to deal with Im just trying to get the best bang for my money,no more no less.

I could not agree more. You have been running roots blowers as long as I have known you (over 15 years). If you are having good luck with them, they stick with it. You and I had spoke about efi in the past. If you ever decide to go to efi, the 5 liter would be a great choice. It will also work good with a carb., but if it aint broke, don't fix it. Unless you want to make more power than you have now, keep what you have. I'm sure the Whipple will make more power by just installing it in place of the roots....now how much is up for discussion. But if you are looking to turn up the boost, the difference between the two will start to increase. The higher the boost, the bigger the difference. Bottom line, if you are happy with what you have, keep it and run the snot out of it and save your money.
Talk to you soon, Eddie.

Plus you started with under size blowers to begin with. 871s or 1071s are not 1471s. I would just like to see a good test in real conditions.
Jim Lee slowed down after installing 5.0s and is now running PSIs. Like I stated 20gs give me something in writing that with 400hp gain I will see at least 15+ mph or take them back.
Skater has been around long enough and HP = speed = Skater dyno

Hope you all are having a great time a be safe I sure wish I could have made the trip.Maybe nextyear.
Skater Brother. :drink:

Keith,

Screw compressors are hands down more efficient than any roots design, especially ones with 1960's technology.

Nobody has ever stated it makes 200hp more on every engine. I don't post some back woods dyno info. I just referred to Chief Engines, which is extremely qualified and has a great reputation. Mark @ Precision also posted some data, and he has all the facts, a direct comparison on AJ's engines (with 1071's), and the results were excellent. They also showed up in the boat, better acceleration, better speed (I think 260mph to date:angry-smiley-038:). The motors have been very reliable, been to countless poker runs and hasn't had so much as a bobble. When dynoing, and in the boat, there's even more than 200hp available since the roots blowers hit a "wall" past 12psi.

You can only make so much power with the intercooler and manifold systems available. You can only push so much air through a hole, so some have to go to a bigger IC system, needless to say, the blower is better than any roots, it's very similar to the PSI in power, but far better qualities.

To get to 1350 with a positive displacement supercharger, and pump gas, you HAVE to have unconvential heads, Big Chiefs, Big Dukes or some other technology. The engines I was refering to were in Pyburn's 388 Skater which will easily go over 180mph on pump gas. The numbers don't lie, nobody is "tricking" these numbers.

As far as I know, Jim Lee picked up power, speed and is still running the 305's. If you know something I don't, please let me know.

It's also not $10k, closer to $8000 per motor with 8mm belt system. Just sit on the fence awhile longer and more and more will show the big difference :drink:

Thanks,
Dustin
