How many bilge pumps?

I have a Formula 36PC which currently has 3 bilge pumps.
1 under the mid cabin area, 1 for the shower, 1 towards the stern
However, it used to have 4. The fourth one, was either in one of the engine bays or between the shower bilge and the stern bilge.
I am sure of this because, there is a separate breaker for it, there is a manual switch for it on the console control panel, and I have the wiring spec for it from Formula. Unfortunately the wiring spec is not accurate enough for me to be sure exactly where it was/is and I have not found any mounting holes yet. As a last resort I intend to try to track the wires, but electrics are not my strong suit and I am not sure how to do this, when I can't always see the wires. Besides it seems to me that there should be some easy to find plumbing somewhere for this too.
I am trying to restore this boat to pristine condition and I want to put a pump back where it was. Also there is the issue of not having as much bilge pump capacity as was originally designed for this boat. Does anybody out there know anyone with a 36PC that I could talk to about this? The Formula guys were good enough to mail me the wiring specs (all of them) but that seems to be about the extent of their knowledge on this 1990 boat.
As a side note, does anyone know any good reason why I can't replace the aging shower sump pump (as far a I can tell a fancy name for a bilge pump in a plastic box with an annoying screen filter) with a good solid "Rule" bilge pump?

i heard from a hull rigger once that a 1"x"1 hole below the waterline will let in 2-3 times as much water per minutes than 3 standard bilge pumps can pump out.
so that extra pump would just give you an extra 2-3 minutes before she went down if she got a decent sized hole in her.

Does it have an extra thru hull fittting? If so, might be in the general area of the missing pump.
