The people who are saying a triple is automatically more expensive have obviously never had a triple.
I had a 33 w/twin 496 HO's, my 40 has triple 496 HO's. The actual mileage is the same untill you start running wide open.
Additionally the cruising speed on the triple is about 8mph faster.
The triples are working MUCH less to achieve the same return.
I have have ran with friends that have had twin 525's and 575's and both used substantiially more fuel, plus they had to run premium. Additionally they are going through drives like crazy.
Maintenance is more, but it is a difference of about $200/yr, not a big deal.
The final thing about the triple is manueravability, it is better with the triple, you can use the third engine to counter the negatives when parking etc.
