Although the snout on the coupler sticks out farther, I'm not sure if the spines extend at all. They definately do not extend the entire length.
One way or another, you are losing 1" or spline engagement correct?

For some reason I am stuck on this thread. I get wild ideas like this all the time, so dont let it seem like I think its a bad idea. Its fun to think that we can reinvent the wheel sometimes.

I know a few people that have had 5 to 8mph gains from this simple move
