claws, i wanted to point that the straps you are using look like polyester round slings, which are good, but you should use a shackle at the eyes.

synthetic slings (nylon,polyester) don't like sharp or square corners and this can damage the actual fibers inside the sling. at least with the nylon slings you could see the damage when it occurs unlike the poly slings since they have a cover. atleast a regular Crosby shackle will provide some radius and they also make plastic corner pieces where you have the slings wrapped over top of the beam.

this is why you see alot of iron workers still using the old school steel wire slings and chokers

due, it looked that you were putting the sling thru the hole in the transom lifting eye. if that is the case, i was just pointing out that the fabric type slings are not designed to be rigged that way. they actually make special shackles for fabric(synthetic) slings. most guys just use a bigger shackle to distribute the load. i would hate to see the boat swing just a little of a period of time, which could cut thru the sling. i watched a lot of people on jobsites rig things improper with bad results.
