Default Power steering pump bolts breaking

Why does the lower stud on the back side of the pump keep breaking? I have had this problem over the years but it hasn't hurt anything. Just thought I would get energetic and do something about it if there is a solution.

500HP carb, V-Belts GM style pump.

Thanks

Tom,
Mine kept breaking so I headed to the Auto parts store and bought an exhaust stud and some washers. Installed the stud and finished the weekend. Figure I would fix it later.. never broke again?? Maybe this year with the blower on it will?

Thanks Dick. I'll find an exhaust stud. I should've known you would have a fix.

Talk to you later tonight.

Install ARP bolt or stud, well worth the $!! My engine package has ARP in everything and I have never broken any. SS bolts from the hardware are very soft.Try and cut ARP with a hacksaw.

The studs I broke aren't SS they are the factory Merc studs. Good point though, I will look at ARP regular steel.

Thanks

You know I had the same problem 2 years ago. I replaced the stud with a factory Merc one, but was careful not overtighten the nut. Never broke another one, but I do carry a spare! Carbed HP500 type set-up.
