Talking Would a "731" cam be too big?

Hey motor guru's, I am looking to upgrade a cam and would like to know your opinion. 454 flat tops, closed chamber"206" heads with some mild port work,RPM airgap intake,770 holley, stock t-bolt ign.,and Imco manifolds. The comp. ratio is 9.6-10.0? Please give me your thoughts on what you would run! THANKS

What Mk / gen is your block? If it's a Gen VI block (Hyd Roller) then the 731 has slightly too much lift for the stock roller lifters and they might pop out of the sleeves. If it's a Mk IV etc, it's up to your combo to match what needs doing but it will run in your set up just fine I'd say, you've got plenty of carb and flow through your intake, as long as your exhaust has the anti reversion risers, you'll be fine. It's apparently a great cam for what we need it to do!

Good Luck!

It worked fine in my Gen VI with the stock lifters.

I'm also running a Bob cam now though!

Really? Nice! Hey, you don't still have the 731 do you?

I read in a book (books are always right aren't they?!?!) that anything over about 540 total lift was too much for the stock lifters in a Gen VI and the 731 has ~547 doesn't it? If it works it works though. I think I'm back in the market for one now too!

I really have to bite the bullet and call Bob. M one of these days!
