I have the Mercury Racing 377 Scorpion engines myself and I am very happy with them.

Honestly I haven't heard of any problems with them.

And I haven't heard of problems with the balanced forged-steel crankshaft that the blue Scorpion 377 uses.

Only disadvantage as I see it, is the fuel 91/92 octane requirement.

Great motors, the crank was a Lunati piece. Never heard of any issues.

383 is a 350 with a 400 crank, stroke makes it 383 CI. a 377 is a destroked 400, If what I remember is true, they run a 35 crank in it but it revs alot higher and screams at high rpm.

I have the black 6.2's as well. From several threads I have read on the 292 with blue Scorpion 6.2's you can expect 7-10 mph increase, or say a 8.5 mph average increase. Figuring 20 HP for each mph, that's 170 HP or 85 HP per engine. Not a bad swap at all!

The black 6.2 is rated 320 HP at the crank while the Scorpion is 350 HP at the prop and probably a conservative rating at that, maybe for insurance reasons(?)

I have the full MerCruiser engine manual on the 6.2's and it includes the Scorpion engine. It shows a much better breathing EFI/intake system and full tube headers stock. Not to mention nice internals. They were pricey, but it would be a worth while project if you can find a good used set to freshen-up at a reasonable price.

you can get there with a 400 block and 350 crank, but thats not how merc did it, it's a 350 block w/400 crank, just not punched .030 which would be a 383...
