Is there any good reason to use a cam button on a roller chain setup?

Is there any good reason to use a cam button on a roller chain setup?
BBC, Cloyes true roller. Hydraulic flat tappet cam and lifters. I have a bearing behind the sprocket to protect the block, but do I really need the button in the front?

I believe with a flat tappit cam, the cam is always forced backwards into the block. Thus only needing a bearing/bushing behind the cam gear. So no cam button needed. With a roller cam, there are no forward or rearward forces applied to the cam. With it being free floating, that is why they need to be held in location, wither it be a cam button or a retaining plate(terminology?)

THanks all, I was pretty sure the load from the dist/oil pump gear always kept the cam against the block but I wasnt sure what happened on deceleration. Ive put them on engines before and never really thought about whether they did anything or not. At least not on a chain drive. Thanks again.
