I watched 4 boats mill around in a circle for 30 minutes some time back trying to set Danforths in a river before a local radar shootout, trying to begin a big raft up. I got fed up with waiting and dropped my Large Box anchor over the side and set in about 30 seconds. It held 6 boats in a ~5 mph current, plus a breeze, in a soft bottom. By the time the other boats got rafted up to me, they eventually got their Danforths into the mud, but none of them actually held. The single Large Box kept us planted all day.

Remember, it's not just your boat that you have to hold. It's all of them. It never fails that 1/2 the folks that want to raft you... "Oh, I don't have an anchor."

Don't get me started on fenders and docklines. I still want my $250 Oakleys back due to someone else's piss poor equipment.

How do they work in rock? I can never get my anchor to hold.

Default box anchor

I use a large for our 353. I carry it in the port side compartment. No problems. It comes with a thick vinyl pouch-no scratches. Better too much than to little in the anchor department!!
