dimension of hydraulic lines for steering
i want to renew my hydaulic lines for steering. i had 8 mm (0,32 inch) lines and i found out that there was a bypass where the line is reduced to 5 mm (0,2"). a mechanic told me at car steerings it is common to use such bypasses in the pressure line.
my question: does such a reduction make sense in the hydraulic steering of a boat? I have 2 imco rams and a charlyn helm. Pressure comes from the stock chevy power steering pump. is it better to use 8 mm or 10 mm lines. (0,4")
thanks for your help.

5/16 is like our 8 mm line. this was the dimension installed. and it also had a reduction just in front of the filter.
