Reviving this old thread. I had a pinched Latham steering hose that must have been weakened and it burst. I replaced it and while working the air out of the system I heard some "screeching" of the pump which seemed to go right away as the air passed through it and fluid displaced the voids...then I burst another line.
I don't know if this one got pinched or all the lines are just getting old/brittle BUT I am replacing them all with stainless braided and full stainless elbows/couplers.
Could there be some over-pressure relief valve in the Latham system that is stuck closed?
