look again. every HP500 has a pcv valve behind the carb in the intake manifold. every 500 efi also has one. I have them in stock and usually only have to replace them because they get a little rusty and don't look good. you must have a shield under the intake if you are to use one or you will consume alot of oil and foul the plugs.

The other valve cover has a pcv valve in it, and goes to a hose barb in the intake plenum. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show_...+INTAKE+PLENUM When i first got my boat, it had the first method , but instead of going to a hose barb to the plenum, it just butted up under the flame arrestor element. So do i actually have a pcv valve installed???? |

Looking at mercruiser parts.com, i do not see anything, or anything mentioned in the parts breakdown for a pcv valve on a Gen V 1993-1995. In this year, it has a breather bafle, that combines both valve cover breathers, then up to the intake plenum via a hose barb.

so what's the engine builder smokin saying that the engine can't breath thru the lines coming from the valve covers and breather baffle like mercruiser engineered...........

I just started reading through all these posts,
can you post a picture of both valve covers? |

Not sure when you were thinking about working with Goodwin, but he told me that he does the tuning in house on the mefi. Either something has changed since, or someone is lying. Either way, he uses wideband O2 sensors and tunes from there on the dyno.

No, boat is an hour from me, what are you getting at?
Pictures are worth a million dollars:drink: Just trying to help, because this problem should not be that hard to solve. Just my 2 cents |

I wanted to see exactly what you have hooked up for the crankcase ventalation.

I had the same oil out the dipstick problem with a supercharged small block. Then I had the same evidence you have of water intrusion into the engine.
Tuns out the blower was pushing compression past the rings and charging the crankcase with more pressure than I could effectively vent with my stock merc breathers and set up. Then I found milky oil & water in places it shouldn't be all traced back to leaks in the cylinder head gaskets and intake likely caused by lean conditions & too much heat. (parker AZ) The imco guys are usually pretty thorough and they helped me trace down a problem with my powerflows burning through the sleeve connector- I'd heed them. My problems were caused by the industries perpetuation of the fantasy that bolting a blower onto a stock engine is OK AND having automotive guys that weren't marine familiar enough to have tested a combination of tried and true components. ALL this HP upgrade engine build/rebuild stuff is much more complicated than it sounds which is why I only work with the top 10 guys and manufacturers anymore- lesson learned. Just for kicks do a leakdown test and compression check- should only take a few minutes. UD |
