Then I found milky oil & water in places it shouldn't be all traced back to leaks in the cylinder head gaskets and intake likely caused by lean conditions & too much heat. (parker AZ)

The imco guys are usually pretty thorough and they helped me trace down a problem with my powerflows burning through the sleeve connector- I'd heed them.

My problems were caused by the industries perpetuation of the fantasy that bolting a blower onto a stock engine is OK AND having automotive guys that weren't marine familiar enough to have tested a combination of tried and true components.

ALL this HP upgrade engine build/rebuild stuff is much more complicated than it sounds which is why I only work with the top 10 guys and manufacturers anymore- lesson learned.

Just for kicks do a leakdown test and compression check- should only take a few minutes.

I have done the compression tests. They turned out good. I don't think they have pressure tested the block, or completed any leak down tests. I think they should, but they want to eliminate the obvious problem of the wrong exhuast being on there first.

I will add, that i have never seen the oil go up on the dipstick at all. And the oil still looks like oil. But, i wouldn't rule out a gasket problem yet either. The two shops thought process is they want to eliminate the first obvious problem (exhuast) before ripping motors apart.

Well, i got with the marine service shop over the weekend. The way the breathers are going to be set up are going to mimic the gen 6 motors. One valve cover will have the plastic elbow and run a hose up to the flame arrestor. The other valve cover will also run the plastic elbow and run a hose up to a hose barb fitting on the underneath side of the intake plenum. Right now, there is a brass plug installed instead. So the crankcase breather should be more than adequate after that.

I'm going with the new IMCO risers risers and the Hardin Marine switchable mufflers. The mufflers need to be custom made so that they come up at 12 degrees to match the tail pipes. Any ideas on what this switchable exhaust will do for noise? How quiet is the muffled selection going to be. The cops here are *****s on the water.

top, would like some insight on the exhuast..........

I think you on on the right track with the exhaust. Long risers are definatly needed with performance cams. I had all kinds of problems before I upgraded the exhaust to long risers. Milky oil, moisture under the valve covers, gunk in the air cleaner.

Any thoughts on exhuast decibels with the switchable system on 500 hp.

I have no experience with mufflers. Maybe you could start a post on mufflers. Are you going to sell your switchable exhaust. I just sold my 21 Mirage today off craigslist and the guy that bought it wanted to know if I knew of any used diverters.

cloudmaster_321 06-16-2009 09:56 PM

Yeah, Imco silent choice system. I guess i won't be needing the risers, diverters, or the y-pipe. The risers were just at IMCO, and could still be there, were checked out as fine.

I'll start a new thread about the mufflers.
