Default High Idle on 525

Revved up my engine to about 2300 RPM at the dock and I heard a "pop." Now the engine likes to idle at 1200 RPM instead of the 720-750. When I throw it in gear, the revs drop back down to 720-750. Obviously its not good to slam the boat into gear with RPM's at 1200. What do you think happenned?

same engine, same problem. No problems last year but now when i come out of the throttle back to idle its about twice of what it should be. Docking becomes a real PITA!! Some times i can get it to come back down with a couple quick jabs on the throttle.

Check the throttle linkage. Mine came loose and if I remember correctly, that's what it did. See photo of the bolt that came loose on mine not allowing the throttle to come home. Don't overtighten it either, it will bind.

Running a Bravo drive? You're close to locking up the clutch cone at those rpms.

I can get it to come back down sometimes too. If I cant, I usually shut the engine off and restart...sometimes that helps.

Working on this same problem. I was told that it is a TPS sensor, the sensor needs to be adjusted to the proper voltage. Since the TPS is out of adjustment at idle the computer calls for what power is requested at the apparent voltage.

I dont know what that means, but it doesnt sound good.
When you shift into gear above 1500 or so, the clutch cone likes to lock-up. Open up your checkbook to fix
