Do I need a bigger oil cooler....
Just left the river and I wrote down all my readings from today.
This is a 1989 Pachanga 22 with a "new" 20 year old 454 (It sat in storage for 15 years with 5 hours on it. It now has 10 hours on it.)
So obviously Gen IV, and it is stock except I got rid of the circulating pump and put the bypass stuff on it. This engine has the stock small oil cooler under the right exhaust.
At 3500 RPM, I have 9 PSI water pressure, 130-135 water temp, 50 PSI oil pressure, and 230 oil temp (oil temp is taken at the oil filter housing on the side that comes directly to the filter prior to going through the cooler).
Is this oil temp too high?

Water presure seems low, ck as see if any impeller parts or trash is in the cooler and ck the drain cock in the block see if full of sand etc. you never know.230 is worm on a stock motor.Is it over proped? lugging it? my 2 cents worth

Not over propped.
Running a 21p, and it tops at right at 44-4500.
Sea Pump just rebuilt, plus the water temp is plenty cool.
I thought that I read on these OSO threads that the pressure should be around 12 PSI in the 4000s. Just means good volume.
I just don't think the oil temp should be that high.

What HP 454? Stock or mofified? That does sound like high oil temps to me. What oil are you running?

230 is on the high side, but not really an issue. My thought is to wait unto you have 20-25 hrs on the new engine and see if you oil temps don't drop from your 230 degrees @ 3500 RPM.
