Question Do I need a new throttle bracket?

Building a new roller SBC and my engine builder says that my old "throttle bracket" will not fit my new intake and carb. I was running a stock quadrajet and stock 4bbl manifold. I am now going to a Edelbrock performer manifold (Dual bolt pattern) and a Edelbrock performer carb (Carter/Weber). I want to use a 4 hole plastic spacer to give a little more power and most importantly to keep the carb cool. The spacer only has the bolt pattern for the Holley/Edelbrock. He says my old bracket WILL work with OUT the spacer since my intake has the dual bolt pattern BUT will NOT with the spacer......I can't quite picture why can anybody help? I have found a aluminum 4 hole spacer with the dual pattern that my builder says will work... But that probally won't help with keeping the carb cooler right? Are the throttle brackets different between the two style of carbs. If so can I just use a bracket for a stock mercruiser weber(carter/afb) and use the plastic spacer I bought? I wish I had it in front of me to help me understand exactly what he's saying but I don't so I have to make the following decison...1)Do not use the spacer AND use my old bracket. 2)Use an aluminum spacer not plastic AND use my old bracket or 3)Find a throttle bracket that will work with the new carb, intake AND spacer......

I can't shed any light on your spacer issue (very confusing), but I do know that the bolt patterns are different. I installed the same combo last year without a spacer. I had to get a new throttle bracket. I found one at CP Performance.

How pleased are you with the setup? Do you like the Edelbrock Carb? And most important have you had any problems with the carb getting to hot? My mechanic says without the spacer my carb will mount no problems and my "bracket" will work also.

I ran that carb without a spacer with no heat issues. I did however, have stumbling issues off idle that could never be worked out. It was a brand new carb and I even bought the jet kit to no avail. Just couldn't get enough pump shot to fuel the engine when doing a hole shot.

Love the carb, and have had no heat issues. The setup is simple and trouble free. I'm running the 750 cfm performer series carb on a performer rpm manifold.

Regards
Mike
