We have been using the Oliver rods since 2001-02. The last two sets had 2.10 journals, pin oilers and SPS rod bolts....never any issues. SPS is a good/best (?) bolt, but it is pricey partially because it is because it is exclusively marketed thru Carillo...who is also proud of this bolt. If Oliver wants SPS rod bolts, they buy them from Carillo. In talking to SPS a few years ago, they have elected to not make rods bolts for any other customers. During my research, we found that SPS is a division within a multi-national US company and that its primary market is certified aircraft bolts.
Cat, this is a good project for you. Does anybody
know if the Carillo rod is actually any better than any of the other top brands? Do the top teams in NASCAR Cup know what rod is best? They are likely the only ones with the budget to do much testing. I do know that many of the teams are down to the 1.88 or 2.00 journal. How long do they last? I'm sure they change them frequently.
We ended up deciding it was marketing BS, with numerous good products available...like custom pistons.

I think that would be a import price, the real Carillos are 1100-1200 engine builder price,
Weve bought a lot of Crower rods,4340 is around 1000.I beleave they got into the import rob for price, then have the high end usa

I have used Olivers for as long as I can remember. In the bigger hp engines, I use the CARR bolts. The only failure I have ever had was a long time ago in a race boat with a blown alcohol engine making 2000+ hp and turning over 8000 rpm.
