How Difficult is this, I had paid a mech to do it in the past, however is relatively easy?? I would appreciate the specifics on this.
Also.
Lubricating propeller shaft??
Gimbal bearing lubricate?

Not difficult at all
Drive fluid. Tip drive all the way down pull out drain plug behind prop and let drain a few minutes. then loosten and remove vent plug on top right side of drive. Let drain many hours. tip drive up to neutral and let drain some more. Then to refill get 4 qts of fluid and a hand pump - mercury dealers have them - cheap. Screw pump top on bottle of fluid the connect tube to bottom drain hole and pump maybe 3 quarts into bottom until it starts out the top vent plug. Then cap vent plug and keep pumping until fluid is seen in rezievour up to fill line. Unscrew hose and recap bottom. Run drive shortly and re-check rezevour agian.
You can grease the gimble bearing with a large size grease gun from the zerk fitting on the transome plate on the right side next right up close to the transom. Give it mabe 10 - 20 squirts. Use U-Joint and Gimble grease (92-828052a2) Then use engine coupler and spline grease on the coupler and spline as well as the propshaft (92-816391a4) The engine coupler has two zerk fittings that spin with the engine and you can see these from the rear of the engine.
If you feel uneasy there is a service manual available from merc that covers each step. You would have to look it up by yout serial number on your drive. But mine is a 90-863160 May 2000
The only other thing to grease would be the drive shaft universal joint. for this you have to remove the drive to do. I would have to check the manual but if you put more than a 100 hours on a year I would have it done. The drives are easy to get off but a little bulky.

If you have the drive oil reservoir inside the boat do not remove the vent plug on the top - side of the drive. Just loosen the cap on the reservoir. Then when you refill the drive pump in the oil untill it starts to fill the reservoir. Then fill the res. from the bottle up to the cold full mark.
