What wasn't setup correctly to make the cam go flat, roller cam?

I learned the oil cooler the hard way myself. Someone sold me a used one and I took there word for it. 10 hours and another expensive engine bit the dirt. I will only buy NEW now and put the filter after it.

It was a hydraulic flat tappet stock 502 415hp and it was just the changes in the oil that made the cam flatten out. it only had 400 hours on it.

Then the hydraulic roller cam got trashed at first from debris and then the valve springs were too stiff making the lifter skip off the cam and make hard contact... ate it up. i had my machinst install springs for a hyd roller.... he was wrong.

Think i'll get 70? I was doing 59 with 330hp 454 cast motor. My drive is complete freshened up no play anywhere all new bushings, steering shaft so steering wise im niceand tight.

What do u have for power, speed, prop, and so on?
you are better off useing a mirage prop that works the best on baja .if you put a shorty drive on then the 4 blade will work . your drive sits in the water to low. if you want top speed mirage prop

Yyou should install drains on the engine stringers before it is too late. you should have seen the rotten wood.
I just got done stripping the entire engine room and repainting it!! It looks awesome, i'll post pics later! Everything is good in my boat, the late 90's are much better in terms of glass work and mine has drains from the factory in 98. everything was nice a solid.

I removed every last screw holding in the trim tabs, hydrolic hoses, gimble, tie down hooks and removed swim plattform and let me tell u they did the worst sealing job i have ever seen, most didnt even have silicon/ 4200 or 5200 on stuff, so i redid everything, the drain was leaking but i caught it in time and no rot. If you havent i would reseal everything with 4200, its a pain but well worth it, I also did a OL 25 aluminum platform, i'll try to post pics if your interested.

I have a mirage plus 23p , its the factory baja prop that came on boat, when i got the boat it was undrivable, same top speed as the 24 4 blade but it would caviate if i was on plane around 35-40 and would just fall off plane. I really love how the 4 blade performs and get oit of the hole. The 3blade 23p with my old motor would strugle to get up on plane.

You think it may work now with 100 more horse

The PVS plugs on the prop are still intact correct? I have never had any mirage blow out on me. Except for one 21p mirage plus that someone took the plugs out of the back.

Mirage plus props are sometimes nicknamed "baja cupped" they are the best for speed and carrying the bow on a OL. I also have a 24p Bravo1 i do like it but i get better performance out of the mirage and like it has been said before the drives on out boat are deep and the 3 blade will work a little better.

Also, Call BBlades Brett is an expert and he will confirm many things said here. and he can get you closer to that 70mph goal by lab finishing the prop.

What are the PVS plugs?? My prop is a 1998 Mirage plus with BAJA laser ectched in the hub . It doesn't have any holes on the base of the prop is that what those PVS holes are called. I have seen them on some propbs but not mine.

Every mirage i have had had the PVS plugs. I think it is for outboards to blow a bubble then collapse giving them a good holeshot. I am not certain on that fact though. It is weird to hear a mirage blowing out. They really are good props for bajas. You are practically running the same pitch in the B1 and will sacrifice top speed with a 4 blade.
