Default Alternator wire locations? v-belt to serp

Installed a serpentine belt system from a 2000 502 MPI on to my NEW 502 CARB crate motor. I used everything from my 1997 454 330hp but used the 2000 mpi alternator because its serp.. So the harness is off my 1997 454 carb motor. Alt id off 2000mpi 502

The back of the alt. lots different than the old one and i dont have it anymore so dont know where they go.

The orange goes to +

The Black to -

then there are red with purple stripe wire and a purple wire. where do those wires go?

there are two small post on alt, both have yellow wires coming out of alt. and going to the post. do i just do one to each? They say AC with arrows pointing to them? what do the wires do on the harness. I have wiring diagrams but it doesn't break down alt locations.

tried to upload pics but to big it said, i can email to anyone that can help, thanks

oop's sorry i didn't see you don't have the alternator anymore...per diagram and the alternator your using it may be self energized so just don't use the 2 extra wires and tape them off..

the diagram http://www.marinemechanic.com/site/page250.html

Ya but if i dont hook up the two small wires, the sensor wire and exciter wire, will it sttop charging and also will my volt gauge work? If i were to buy a new alt would i buy a 2000 mpi mando one or buy an 1997 one? The 1997 alt i think is a different housing so it wont work with the new serp bracketry.

Im hoping someone has run into this same issue....

just got off phone with Prestolite who makes the alt. and they said that this alt.is a 2 wire alternator so i dont need the other two small wires in the merc harness to make the alternator work.....but if i dont hook up the senoring wire will anything on my boat like the volt gauge or ignition get screwed up. I dont need the other small wire, cus thats the exciting wire and this alt. is self exciting.

Should i run this alt. or just buy a new one with 4 wires.

If it were mine i would run it. If you have a volt gauge it should register voltage,if you have a amp gauge it may not. i would hook up the alternator with out the ppl and the red and ppl wire and tape them off for now..looking @ the wiring diagram looks like everything loops back into power or tied in somewhere..put the engine in and if you don't have power going to the ignition hook up the red w ppl stripe wire to a power source..

does your merc harness have the red/pur and purple wires? Did you just tape them up and your volt gauge and everything still works?
