Default gear lube reservoir-i am not sure if my boat should have one or not?

this may seam like a really dumb question but i am not sure if my boat should have a gear lube reservoir or not? for those who have folloed my build at all, when i got my boat the motor was pulled and there was a pile of parts and no reservoir. the boat is a 89 baja sport 250, the upper unit and gimbal appear to be newer and i have a spare gimbal that came with it that i assume is the original. i have not noticed the serial number since it had new stickers on it.... the upper does NOT have the "oiler" vent tube on it, does that vent have something to do with it? on a another subject i need to plug that vent hole on the lower, does anyone know what size of plug i need to tap it for?

Measure the hole with a inside caliper. If memory serves me, the hole is just right to run a 5/16 nc tap in to. No drilling required. Use a SS set screw with red locktite. Just make sure you are catching the chips if the drive is assembled.

If you post a pic of the upper mounting surface to the bellhousing I can tell you if you have the reservoir drive or not. 1989 most likely not. 1988s did not.
