Default Steering Question

Hi All,

I have a multi part question.

I am having an issue with my boat pulling hard to the left while accelerating and the diving right when I back off the throttle.

First question is how muck play if any is allowed where the clevis pin form the steering cables hook on to the arm that pushes-pulls the drive?

Also if I was to run it on the hose in the driveway should the Power steering pump hold things firm or would there be a give due to being at idle.

There is no real plat in the gimbal up and down or left to right. Thees is a bit of slop in the cabling

Also could this be a prop issue?

Any help would be appreciated I think I have a bad power steering pump but not sure

#1 That sounds like it could be a worn gimbal ring.

#2 Could be the steering ram behind the motor. I had that issue before switching to full hydraulic steering. When I pushed the drive, I could hear air escaping from the PS reservoir.

I am up near Winthrop Harbor.

I had George form Performance Products go through the drive before it was installed las year he checked the gimbal bearing and thought it was fine.

How can I check?

Not the bearing, the ring itself, and the pins that hold it there.

How would I be able to tell if there is a problem with the gimbal itself?
Is there anything I could check?

Pick it up and down, and side to side, use a helper, there should be minimal to no play in the pins.
