Default Opinions on mini torque starters

I bought a boat with a 468 BB chevy and it had a mini torque starter on it. I cranked it 3-4 times and the starter quit. I borrowed a buddies starter (the big old school type) and it spins the motor much faster and worked perfect. When I was talking to some friends about this they all said the mini torques were junk and that they all had tried them and had gone through numerous starters only to go back to the big old type. Have any of you experienced this and if not which mini torques are you running?

Bought my 7.4 with a mini starter on it. No issues so far. In the auto world, that's all I run - and pretty much all the factories run anymore.

As cheek said, yours was dying already.

Here is a nice mini starter which uses all ball bearings.

I know it's expensive but some of them mini starters under $100 are junk. You get what you pay for!
