Never had this happen on any other engines, on my 502's when I first pull the dipstick, they read way overfull, even after sitting for a week or more. Wipe the stick and put it back in and they will show on the hash marks. Makes me a little nervous about overfilling, never seen an engine that doesnt read dead on after sitting overnight.

my 454 does the same thing.

Gen 6 502 stock pan and stick. I notice that one side of the stick reads higher than the other. It would seem that it has to do with the angle that the dipstick is setting at inside the pan. Mine reads a half quart higher or midpoint on one side and full on the other.

If you do a search for my thread, I had questioned the same thing. I found if you leave the dipstick just pulled out enough to not seal, it will not read high. The end of my dipstick handle is plugged, and I think that is a reason why the oil creeps up the dipstick.

It's like holding fluid in a straw with your finger on the end. Break the vacume by pulling it out then get an accurate reading. Crankcase pressure pushes the oil up the tube while running, seal at the top holds it there.
