I have had the same 2 blue boxes in 2 different boats, both blown teague motors for 14 years. One lucky SOB.

Mine died this weekend. I was just cruising and the engine shut down. I pulled out my spare and in under 5 minutes we were up and running.
Spare ignition box “don’t leave home without it" I must have cursed myself from my earlier post. :drink::drink::drink: |
hey JMO I have had my problems in the past with MSD box failures. What I found to work the best is good weather pack connectors, mount the box high and dry on rubber, really good grounds and go right to the BAT for power with a good fuse. I do have a kickin stereo but it only runs off my reserve BAT not my main engine BAT none of my ignition is run off the reserve BAT......

I had TERRIBLE problems with msd blue marine boxes, tried 3 of them and they all had problems immediately. one wouldn't even work at all brand new out of the box. I bought a MSD tester and I found that the other 2 would fire intermittently and screwed up depending on how you wiggled the harness going into the box. When they made the seal where the wires passed into the box wall they must have crushed the wires going in. Of course they wouldn't acknowledge there was a production problem and said I was the only one having problems, I swithed to a crane box and haver never had another problem,Smitty

Is the CRANE Marine box still available? They seemed pretty reliable and had lots of features.

I just ordered a blue MSD box for my boat and I downloaded and read the instructions before I decided to buy one. I remember the instructions saying connect it directly to the battery and DO NOT connect it to the starter. It might get a amperage jump sent to it if its connected to the starter when you crank up the engine (that would be my guess why MSD says not to hook it to the starter terminal) and that might also be the reason guys with big stereos have problems with it (crazy amperage pull and spikes from big stereos) That's my 2 cents I am a electronics technician for what its worth.
