They are incased in the potted material .....they might be just swapping them out? .....
we'll find out .... I sent MSD and TechWest an email .....

I do know that MSD will rebuild those Knarly Distributors for about 100 bucks ......
Also on the Distributors if you will clear coat them when new they hold up pretty well .......................m

Responce from MSD

Dear Sir:

Unfortunately, the PN 6560 is a fully potted unit and cannot be repaired. Potting means that there is a polyurethane compound that is poured in and completely fills that casing. Because of this procedure, we cannot eat through that potting and replace any faulty component.

This is done in order to obtain the UL Marine listing for that ignition.

Thanks, MSD Tech

Good afternoon, Sorry but the Marine boxes are backfilled with urethane so their throw away boxes when they fail. We have many customers ( Hydro plane, Swamp Buggy racers) that have moved over to the MSD 6aln boxes from the MSD Marine box with excellent results. The 6aln is run in Nascar and is backfilled with silicone rather than urethane. If you want I can see if I can run down a used one for you? Thank you for contacting TechWest Racing Services, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

So, i read the article and all the post. what i want to know is why are they having such a high failure rate. what is msd doing to fix the problems and make more reliable.

As far as I know MSD has never done ANYTHING to resolve the blue box problems,it makes no sense. When I discovered why I was having problems with them (the bad factory crimp where it enters the box) I called them thinking they would want the batch# and serial number, instead they just wanted to maintain that no one else had ever had a problem and that having a voltage spike or ground problem causes the majority of problems, Smitty
