K plane ?

If I already have 280 k planes can I purchase two 380 lowers and attach (swap out lowers for the longer ones with out changing other stuff). Probably a dumb question but wasn't sure if they would match up. They are the merc tabs on a 1995 boat.

Thanks

Given the number of 280 plates only you see for sale in the swap section, I am betting you can.

That brick doesn't need bigger tabs:lolhit: It needs bigger HP:evilb::evilb:

But yes, 380 plates and 280 plates are interchangeable.

I have wondered about doing the same thing, what would be the main advantage someone would see on there boat going to the longer tabs?

With a longer tab it provides more leverage so you don't have to put them down so much for the same effect. This means the boat will run a little faster at the same trim.

Just be careful with the longer tabs and don't get too aggressive with them while running.

We ran a 21 Hustler back in the 80's that had 380's on it. And there was a big sticker by the control that said something to the effect of "Trim Tabs should not be fully deflected at high speeds as an undesirable submarining effect may occur.":eek::drink::drink:

I have swapped my 280 tabs the 380’s several years ago. All you have to do it swap the plates. It was a great improvement for me. Just watch out for the prop(s) hitting the tabs. I had to add limiters inside my hydraulic steering rams to prevent damage. I lost some low speed maneuverability around the dock, but the trade off is worth it if you run fast.

Undesirable indeed! :drink:
