correct. check that first. You can do it yourself and it's an inexpensive repair if necc. go from there

Dolla, read back, his engine is breaking up like a rev limiter but at a lower RPM.

Was told it wasn't linkage or coupler.
Prop is in good shape. No signs of dings, nicks?
Any ideas? Could props blades have warped, etc to a point where it can increase RPM's?
look at the engines at night to see if the spark plug wires are shorting out..probablr hav a few bad ignition wires..

+2 on guardian mode.

About 7 years ago, I got a little wild one day on my family's SeaRay 290 with a single 496 HO and guardian mode kicked in. Boy were they pissed when I had to explain that one

A clarification is needed for me. I don't see where he says the rpms or speeds are off.

Just to confirm: Speed has not changed. Still maxing out around 73MPH which is what it would do at Full Open Throttle. Only difference is...he reaches 73mph and the motor starts bouncing off the rev limiter (Baja's begin to beep and the motor cuts in and out as it taps the limiter) RPM's I believe on a 496 HO are 5050 (or 4950 can't remember) but whatever it is it's tapping the limiter. Throttle is at 3/4 now. If he takes it beyond the 3/4 it just keeps tapping the limiter non stop.

Speed is the same but now it hits the rev limiter. Something must have changed because that doesn't compute .
