Thanks so could I use the shell rotella 15-40 disel oil in the boat. I use it in my truck and I know the oil is bullet proof. Just wondering if it has all the correct ratings

Yeah, you could use that just fine. Diesel oils are high in Zinc and Phosphorus, which are anti wear additives. I prefer the synthetic better in the boats though for a few reasons. Since boats are usually not ran daily, the synthetics will...
1. Flow to top ends quicker providing quicker protection
2. Adhere to the cylinder walls much better than a petroleum product will
3. Much higher resistance to heat and high RPMs, i.e. boats.

Last time I had an oil analysis done on Rotella T (2008), zinc and phosphours levels were in the 1100 PPM range and this was on new, unused oil. I am sure it hasn't gone up since then.

New Oil Filter Study finds Royal Purple Oil Filter to be among the very best at a real nice price too at Pep Boys.

Royal Purple Oil SK spec 20W-50 is amazing in offshore engines as well as I am using it now.
