Here is the list of AMSOIL/Donaldson filters in order for the Mercury blocks.
EAO-59 shortest EAO-25 EAO-24 EAO-76 (2qt filter) Currently have a remote filter unit that requires a 3/4" NPT filter like the HP6A Fram. The link below shows the cross reference filter list. Does Amsoil have a replacement for the HP6A? http://www.framcatalog.com/PartDetail.aspx?b=F&pn=HP6 Keep in mind that most use a 1/2" NPT, correct? |

Understanding the difference between the stock and racing oil filter versions, I would like to explore switching to a "finer" filtration oil filter. I do have a question.

Looked on the Amsoil site and could not find a tech sheet on the EAO24 oil filter. Help. Does this filter truly have a 3/4 NPT fitting?

http://www.aa1car.com/library/API_ratings.pdf looks like a SN oil would give you the protection of a engine rated for SL OIL???

I think this whole oil thing is beaten to death. And that filter has worked fine for years...

Amsoil EA filters are made by Donaldson, you can get the specs there.

I would compare the filter media of the K&N to the Amsoil EAO series. I did a lot of research when I bought my boat a couple of years ago. I looked at K&N, Mobil 1 Synthetic, WIX, Fram, Donaldson (Amsoil) etc. The filter media in the Donaldson filters is the best I could find. The fibers are very fine and uniform so you have more open area per square inch verses a cellulose fiber as in the K&N, WIX etc. The high uniformity also allows for better filtration of small particles. I personally use the EAO76 filter on my 522, almost 2qt capacity, no flow restriction whatsoever. Can't tell if the oil comes out cleaner then it went in.
It appears as the micron filtering number decreases, so does the flow rate (GPM). Finding an oil filter with a micron number of 20 and a flow rate (GPM) of 25+ would be great. Any thoughts-----suggestions? |
Amsoil EAO76 is about 1.4qts and has a 20 micron rating. With that amount of surface area of high flowing synthetic media, I doubt it will have any difficulty flowing what you require. I run my 522 to 6k and I have no problems.
